# What are the recommended wheel widths for different ATV and UTV tire sizes?
## Recommended wheel widths vary by tire size, and choosing the right pairing helps ensure proper fitment, performance, and appearance.
Matching wheel width to tire width is important for proper bead seating and optimal tire performance on your ATV or UTV. Here are general guidelines for powersports applications:
- **Narrow ATV tires (8' to 10' wide):** Best paired with 6' to 8' wide wheels
- **Standard ATV/UTV tires (10' to 12' wide):** Best paired with 7' to 9' wide wheels
- **Wide UTV tires (12' and up):** Best paired with 8' to 10' wide wheels
Going too narrow on the wheel relative to the tire can cause the tire sidewall to balloon outward, which affects handling and increases the risk of the tire rolling off the bead under hard cornering. Going too wide can make the tire crown flat, reducing the contact patch and affecting traction.
Always check the tire manufacturer's recommended rim width for your specific tire model. When in doubt, [ask our team](https://www.functionpowersports.com/contact-sales) -- they work with ATV and UTV fitment every day and can confirm the right combination for your machine.
