What is the best wheel diameter for my ATV or UTV?

The best wheel diameter for your ATV or UTV depends on your machine, riding style, and the tire sizes available for your target terrain -- most builds use 12" to 15" wheels.

Most ATV and UTV builds run wheels in the 12' to 15' diameter range, though the right choice depends on your machine, terrain, and build goals:

  • 12' to 14' wheels are the most common for ATVs and smaller UTVs. They pair well with a wide range of tire sizes and are ideal for trail riding, mud, and general off-road use.
  • 14' to 15' wheels are popular on performance UTVs like the Polaris RZR Pro XP, Can-Am X3, and similar machines. They offer better brake clearance for larger calipers and pair with the aggressive tire sizes popular in the dune and race scene.
  • Larger diameters (16'+) are available for some UTV applications but less common -- check machine-specific fitment before considering these.

Use the machine fitment selector on the Function Powersports homepage to see recommended wheel diameters for your specific ATV or UTV, or ask our sales team.
