Why are my tires rubbing after installation?

Tire rub after installation is usually caused by a tire size, wheel offset, or suspension height that does not provide enough clearance for your specific vehicle. Depending on the cause, options like trimming, a lift kit, or wheel spacers can often resolve the issue without having to return anything.

Tire rubbing after installing new wheels and tires on your ATV or UTV is a common issue and is almost always caused by a combination of tire size, offset, and suspension clearance. Here is how to diagnose it:

  • Tire too wide or too tall: If you went significantly larger than stock, you may be pushing the limits of your machine's fender and suspension clearance without a lift kit.
  • Offset too low (too much poke): A wheel with too much negative offset will push the tire outward, causing it to contact the fender or frame.
  • Suspension compression: Rubbing that only occurs over bumps or under hard cornering is often a suspension travel issue -- the tire contacts the fender at full compression. A lift kit typically resolves this.
  • No lift kit: Running an Aggressive Fit setup without the appropriate suspension lift is the most common cause of rubbing on UTVs and ATVs.
