# Why is wheel size important?
## Wheel size affects both the look and performance of your build. Smaller wheels offer a smoother ride and better off-road capability, while larger wheels give your machine a bold, eye-catching appearance.
Wheel size determines what tires fit your ATV or UTV and directly affects performance, clearance, and the overall look of your build. On powersports machines, the combination of wheel diameter and tire height determines the total rolling diameter -- which affects ground clearance, suspension travel, and speedometer accuracy.
Getting wheel size right also ensures proper fitment within your machine's fender arches and that brake calipers clear the inner barrel of the wheel. For performance machines like the Polaris RZR or Can-Am Maverick, proper wheel sizing is especially important to maintain the handling characteristics engineered into the machine.
